London 2012

The London Assembly’s Economy, Culture and Sport Committee has become the first public body to hit out at the London 2012 Organising Committee, saying it was hiding behind its legal status as a private company to claim commercial confidentiality despite benefitting from significant taxpayer funds.

By 1970 women chose who they wished to be and if they felt like wearing a short mini skirt one day and a maxi dress, midi skirt or hot pants the day after – that’s what they actually did.

this video

For eveningwear girls frequently wore full length maxi dresses, evening trousers or glamorous halter neck catsuits. Some of the dresses oozed Motown glamour, others less so.

Left – Two younger women in their early twenties on holiday in the Canary Islands c1972. The short check flared skirt was very fashionable, as was the empire kind of the diamond check pattern mini dress. Right – Halter neck catsuit pattern of 1971. Exotic and tropical prints were a reflection of designers gaining inspiration from overseas travel destinations.

For evening in the early seventies, either straight or flared Empire line dresses with a sequined fabric bodice and exotic sleeves were the style for a dressy occasion. Picture of office girls wearing short mini dresses. Fashion history and costume history of the 1970s.

One often worn style was the Gramps dress with a high neck. Often the stand neck was pie-crust frilled, or lace trimmed. Often they were made of a floral print design in a warm brushed fabric or viscose rayon crepe which draped and gathered well into empire line styles.

Right – Typical short and mini dresses worn at an office party in 1972 / three. At the front a young girl wears a long floral grandma dress that covers her knees.

Another hugely successful evening form of the 1970s was the halter neck dress, either maxi or above knee.

At a disco, 1970s girls might don hot pants. In opposition to the exhibit all mini, a girl would suddenly confound men by completely covering her legs and retort that mini dresses were an exploitation, rather than a liberation of ladies.

The central element in the life of Uppingham School is the classroom curriculum, but, unlike many other schools, Uppingham focuses unashamedly on the “total curriculum”.

This is our term for the total educational experience of being a pupil at a genuinely seven-day-a-week boarding school. Our goal has been, for at least a century and a half, to focus upon the development of the “whole person”

Has the idea of growing your own flowers always appealed to you? Well, there is no time like the present to turn your dream into reality. You could be thinking that you don’t really have any extra time for a garden and, even if you did, you know absolutely nothing about what to do. Concerns like these are pretty common, but unwarranted. Gardening is really pretty easy and not the least bit complicated or time consuming. You’ll soon discover that it really isn’t necessary to invest a lot of time to enjoy gardening as soon as you become knowledgeable about what is involved. When you do not know what is involved, then it is all too easy to make the wrong assumptions. Even so, after you start planning your garden, and choosing what you want to grow, you will find that it’s a lot of fun and very relaxing.

You will need to give suitable attention to the dirt your plants are planted in. Your plants will thrive much better when you use a tine tool for routine soil tilling near the plants. This will just be a matter of crumbling up the soil so that air and water can be circulated.

The accepted type of garden hoe is the one that has three tines, but you can find a very wide variety to make your choice from. The design of this tool is so well appreciated that it has not changed and may never. But you may want to get several tines; one with a long handle and the other a short handle. This will expand your reach and you will be able to stay clear from packing the soil down. If you do a little research online, or at your local bookstore, you will find a lot of great ideas for unique gardens. You can plant something as simple and useful as an herb garden or a garden with different plants to brew your own herbal tea. Do you like to watch hummingbirds? Grow the flowers that they love and put them where you can see them from your windows. Think about how much you will enjoy watching them – seemingly motionless in mid-air – as they sip on the nectar from the flowers you have grown. Herbs and spices are easy to grow and don’t require a lot of room. There are so many different types to choose from. You can even space them out with your other plants. Most spices and herbs, such as lavender, have very pleasant aromas, so be aware of which plants you are choosing and make sure the scent is something you will enjoy. The fragrance of mint grows more appealing in the evenings as twilight falls and will make your yard a pleasant place to sit.

It’s really quite simple to prune your tomato plants if you’ve never done it before. Below you will find a few simple tips that will make you an instant expert! Pruning tomato plants will help them yield better tasting tomatoes which is what you want. If you look carefully at your growing plant, take note of the space between where two branches are forming. You will see new growth sprouting between the two stems. It’s really better to get rid of these small growths because, even if allowed to grow, they won’t give you any additional tomatoes. Another thing to keep in mind when pruning is not to overdo it. Take it slow and easy and be careful not to remove too many leaves! It is all right to remove a few so young tomatoes can get more sunlight. But remember that the leaves are responsible for creating the nutrients for the plant. The three gardening tips we have shared with you are proven winners from people from all over. Remember, take your time and plan your garden well. Don’t be in a hurry and do things haphazardly. Your garden will thrive if you take the time to prepare everything well and make a good plan. So do your plants a huge favor and give them what they need, and they will reward you for your efforts.
